ELECTRON TRANSPORT CHAIN
The electron transport chain is located in the inner membrane of the mitochondria. Using the electrons from NADH the Hydrogen ions from FADH and NADH are pushed across the concentration gradient. Energy from the electrons are used in the carrier proteins to push Hydrogen in to the inter membrane space. Then at the end of the chain Oxygen binds with electrons and hydrogen ions to form Water as a by product.

The Hydrogen ions from the electron transport chain are used to power ATP synthase and combine ADP and a phosphate to create ATP. The Hydrogens are then transported back into the matrix and combine with Oxygen and Electrons to make water |
