The krebs cycle
PRE KREBS:
The pyruvic acid from Glycolysis enters the mitochondria and is met with CoEnzyme A (CoA). Carbon dioxide falls off of pyruvate, along with an NAD+ taking two Hydrogen molecules, making it a 2-C molecule called Acetyl. Acetyl binds with CoA and AcetylCoA enters the Krebs Cycle. Named after Hans Adolf Krebs in 1937 it starts when Pyruvic acid, 2 carbons enters the Krebs cycle it is combined with a compound called Oxaloacetate, which contains 4 carbons. When Pyruvate combines with Oxaloacetate it creates a 6 carbon compound which is then sent down the Krebs cycle. When the Krebs cycle is hal completed 1 ATP is produced overall.
